This week I have had the opportunity to touch on many subjects relating to Islam and the Muslim. The subject that catches my attention most is what the purpose of life is to be. I have asked myself this many times."What is my purpose in life?" I can remember going from job to job trying to find out what in particular I was good "at". Perhaps this was my purpose, to land a great job that paid me thousands maybe millions of dollars.Or, perhaps, focusing in on my children and their ups and downs was my purpose for life. But, soon they became teens and were busy trying to find their own purpose in life. Clearly, becoming absorbed in my children's affairs was not my purpose in life. I then came to the conclusion that my purpose in life was to save or to fix men. When I couldn't fix them, I'd simply divorce them. When I realized that I could not fix a drug addicted person, or convince an alcohol addicted person to stop drinking, or preach a "sex outside of marriage" addicted person to stop committing adultery, I would just throw my hands up and move on. I have, finally, come to the conclusion that none of the above was my purpose in life. The only thing that stayed consistent in my life was the presence of God and my need for prayer and acknowledging His existence. My purpose was not to put emphasis on a job for purpose or to become so involved with my children's lives in order to find purpose, or even trying to fix imperfect husbands as a way of fulfilling my purpose. My only purpose in life is to serve Allah(God) and follow the straight path in doing those things that He wants me to do. By serving Him, He directs my path in how to relate to events in this life. So, the purpose of life is to serve Allah(God) and only Allah(God). To serve Him is truly a sweet, savory taste to the pallet. I can now feel confident in knowing that my happiness comes from serving Allah(God) who is The Creator, The All Knowing, The All Gracious, and The All Most High.
